Huey Lewis and the News: Soulsville

FIRST ALBUM IN NINE YEARS

Soulsville

Soulsville is the first new album in nine years from Huey Lewis and the News. The new
album was recorded in the city’s historic Ardent Studios. Recorded with their long time horn section in Memphis,
Soulsville features 14 classic songs from the vault of Stax Records, including “Respect Yourself” and “Got To
Get You Off My Mind.”

For the album cover, Memphis folk artist Lamar Sorrento has created a striking, affectionate caricature of
a Memphis street corner. Complete with musicians, rib joints, and, of course, WDIA, the country’s first black radio
station, Sorrento captures the sprit and energy of Memphis just as vibrantly as Lewis and the News do on their new
album.

Soulsville is out November 2.

Super Bad Sunday: <br>Brian Jonestown Massacre

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ANTON!

Today is Brian Jonestown Massacre leader/mastermind Anton Newcombe‘s birthday. We dig their psychedelicized groove thang. More than a throwback, BJM is a swell, smart evolution of the West Coast late 60s golden age of paisley, LSD-stroked fare. And they come in other appealing flavors, despite that rep (well deserved as it is). Happy 43rd, Mr. Newcombe. May your friends and allies bring you curious spices, beautiful dashikis and comely companionship this natal day. (Dennis Cook)

A triple shot o’ the Massacre live and a music video from their most recent album, Who Killed Sgt. Pepper? (released January 11, 2010)..
