JACKIE GREENE CANCELS DUE TO FAMILY EMERGENCY;
COMMUNION IN THE REDWOODS NOW FREE TO ALL

From CommunionMusic.co.uk:

“This weekend brings us Communion In The Redwoods, a 3-day gathering taking place October 21-23 in Big Sur, CA in association with (((folkYEAH!))) Presents.

It is with deep regret that due to an unforeseen family medical emergency, Jackie Greene has cancelled his performances this weekend, including this Sundays scheduled performance at Communion in The Redwoods in Big Sur.

All of us at Communion and (((folkYEAH!))) extend to Jackie and his family our heartfelt respects.

In-keeping with Communion’s desire to create an unforgettable gathering in Big Sur this weekend, we are hereby announcing that Communion in the Redwoods shall now become a free show for all.

This decision has been born from respect and our collective desire to do the right thing. There is no doubt that for those present at Fernwood on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, this will remain an incredibly special weekend of music and community.
Full refunds will be issued immediately.

(((folkYEAH!))) Presents in Big Sur has been the host to some incredible shows recently including Arcade Fire, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gillian Welch, MGMT, The Chris Robinson Brotherhood and Fleet Foxes among others. Continuing in the spirit of Communion by presenting distinctive performances in unique settings, Communion In The Redwoods will take place at Fernwood in the majestic Redwoods of Big Sur, California.

In addition to the previously announced Communion Tour from October 18 in Los Angeles through November 12 in Boston, and the monthly Communion shows taking place at Caf DuNord in San Francisco, Communion In The Redwoods will be the first multi-day, multi-act, multi-stage presentation in the U.S. from the UK collective known as Communion. The gathering takes place at the beautiful Fernwood Resort from October 21-23 and will offer emerging, developing and established artists a creative platform to perform in an enchanting environment that embraces collaboration and mutual support.”

REAL ROCK RAGES IN MEMPHIS IN SEPTEMBER

Tickets are now on sale for Goner Records‘ eighth annual international music festival, which will take place September 22-25, 2011, in Memphis, TN. Goner Fest 8 will include three evening showcases at the Hi-Tone, a Saturday afternoon ten band blowout at Murphy’s, opening and closing shows at the Goner Record Shop, and various daytime shows throughout the weekend.

The festival will bring together 35 bands from all over the world for three days and nights of rock and roll mayhem. Attendance for Goner Fest 8 is anticipated to top 2500 people for the weekend; as many as half of whom will be coming from outside of Memphis. Previous festivals have attracted rock and roll fans from Austria, Japan, Germany, Italy, Spain, Wales, Holland, France, England, Australia, Croatia, Tasmania, and Canada. And Vermont!

In its short life span, Goner Fest has quickly increased the size of its blip on the radar of mainstream independent music. Paste said it tends to fill three days with so much overdriven, yelp-tastic rock ‘n’ roll that, for the slightest moment, the city of Memphis becomes one big parents’ garage. Blurt called Goner Fest a rock n roll mainline that is the perfect antidote for all those other festivals.
