The Zappa Family Trust is for the first time ever making the legendary Captain Beefheart album Bat Chain Puller available in its original format. Recording for the album began in 1976 and was completed but was never released on Frank Zappa’s label that Beefheart was signed to at the time, due to “all the usual financial difficulties in the proverbial record business, including breach of contract with the artist, lawsuits with artist management and distribution for the label,” according to sources.

Different recordings of some of the songs were released elsewhere, but this will be the first time Captain Beefheart fans will be able to hear the album the way it was intended. The release is available for pre-order now and shipping is planned for the week of February 13. Click here for more information.

    The 2012 Bill’s Birthday Bash will take place at The Fillmore in San Francisco on Saturday, January 7th, one day before what would have been Bill Graham’s 81st birthday. This year’s line-up features Hot Tuna (electric), David Bromberg and DJ Harry Duncan.

    There will be a silent auction in the Poster Room featuring lots of great items including a guitar signed by Santana, Metallica posters from the recent 30th anniversary shows signed by the band, and much much more.

    This evening is a benefit for the Bill Graham Memorial Foundation. Formed in January of 2008, in memory of the legendary rock impresario, the Foundation is a public charity that is funded through individual and corporate contributions and grants, and is guided by a broad-based group which includes Bill’s sons, several former long-time employees of Bill Graham Presents and other community leaders.

    A mission of the Bill Graham Memorial Foundation is the giving of grants primarily in the areas of music, the arts and education, while also supporting social work, environmental protection, and spiritual and compassionate projects in our community. In this spirit, the Bill Graham Memorial Foundation seeks to assist those whose needs are often times not served by larger philanthropic organizations.

    Music for Occupy has announced a compilation entitled Occupy This Album to benefit the Occupy Wall Street movement.

    According to the website, Music for Occupy seeks to “inspire and celebrate through music the Occupy Wall Street movement and the 99% whove been adversely affected by the economic corruption that has permeated our Democracy, created a near insurmountable disparity in wealth, and hindered life, liberty, justice and the pursuit of an honest living for all.”
