KING FEATURES’ MIGHTY MARINER MIXES IT UP
WITH WINDY CITY’S ADVENTUROUS ALT ROCKERS

Wilco |
King Features and dBpm Records are combining creative forces for a series of firsts with the release of a new cartoon and animated music video for Wilco‘s “Dawned On Me” featuring Popeye the Sailor Man and the Chicago band.
The new video can be viewed in its entirety below, and at wilcospinach.com.
Wilco’s sweet, whimsical love song comes from their latest album, the 2012 Grammy-nominated The Whole Love. The video is directed by Darren Romanelli, the fashion and pop culture innovator who conceived the collaboration between Wilco and King’s flagship character.
This collaboration between American icons is one of the first music videos Wilco has released since 1999 and it presents the band to the masses in a fresh, new way: as animated images, side-by-side with Popeye and his friends Olive Oyl, Swee’ Pea, Wimpy and Bluto.
In this new video, Popeye vies for Olive Oyl’s affections with his usual nemesis, Bluto, and with a new challenger, Wilco front man Jeff Tweedy.

WHAT’S NEW PUSSYCAT?
Third Man Records is proud to announce the most virile entry in the history of its Blue Series singles: The man, the legend himself Mr. Tom Jones laying his unmistakable voice over Howlin’ Wolf‘s “Evil” and the Frankie Lane classic “Jezebel” (as covered over the years by the likes of Edith Piaf and Anna Calvi). Both tracks were produced by Jack White at Third Man studios and will be available on 7″ and iTunes March 5.
2012 starts off with the label’s third and final singles compilation, on three LPs pressed in Third Man’s standard three colors of vinyl: black, yellow and white–as well as the third in an annual series of fold-out posters depicting the covers of all the previous years’ TMR singles.
This quarter’s 7″ is something literally from the vault: Recorded during the 1999 sessions for their self-titled debut, The White Stripes “Dead Leaves” and “Let’s Build a Home” are versions markedly different from the ones that would eventually be recorded and released on White Blood Cells and De Stijl.
The wild card item this quarter is a solar-reactive, color-changing Third Man Records logo t-shirt: yes, when exposed to sunlight, the color of the print switches from yellow to white, again reinforcing the three color scheme and complementing the triple LP set.
The 3-LP set (TMR 133), “Dead Leaves”/”Let’s Build a Home” 7″ (TMR 134) and three-color Third Man shirt are available only to Vault subscribers–so sign up now if you want ‘em as the cut-off date of January 31 is fast approaching.
